TU1304 COST Action aims to merge the efforts of the COST countries research groups working on the Wind Energy Technology and design the pathways to introduce it by means of robust applications to the urban and suburban built environment, thus enhancing the concept of Smart Future Cities. This Action revisits safe, cost-effective and societally accepted wind energy technology for consideration in the development of the future urban and suburban habitat.
The principal objectives of WINERCOST is to collect the existing expertise on the Built environment Wind energy Technology (BWT) recently developed as a follow-up of the Onshore/Offshore Wind Energy Technology (ON/OFF-WET) and to investigate effective adoption methods for enabling the concept of Smart Future Cities. In addition, the utmost important issue of the social acceptance strategy will be scrutinized in close collaboration with municipality authorities, industry, manufacturers as well as the international wind energy organizations.

The WINERCOST chair Prof. Dr.-Ing. C. Baniotopoulos (University of Birmingham) presented as Plenary Lecturer the plethora of research activities under the WINERCOST Action framework at the International High-end Forum on Structure Engineerings and Wind Engineering (IHFSEWE 2017) that took place in Chongqing, China 14-15 October 2017. The Forum was sponsored by the School of Engineering, Chongqing University, the Journal of Building Structure and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. During the 2 days that the International IHFSEWE 2017 lasted, the international audience and the Chinese colleagues were informed about the various research projects that run within the WINERCOST framework and were given the chance to be invited to participate to the WINERCOST’18 Conference that will take place in Catanzaro, Italy on March 21-23, 2018.
WINERCOST TU1304 will organise the 7th Core Group Meeting at Eindhoven University of Technology in conjunction with the formal opening of the Eindhoven Atmospheric Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel.
